Once again RyanAir's female cabin crew are
stripping off for charity.
Now, people getting their kit off for charity calendars is nothing new. A cursory glance tells me that this year musical men "
Only Men Aloud" are doing it for Welsh charity
Ty Gobaith. Some London internet entrepreneurs
have done it for
Take Heart, a youth charity which sets up IT projects in India.
Perhaps most famously the
Rylstone and District Women's Institute stripped to raise funds for
Leukaemia Research, sparking a plethora of copycats, as well as now the
stage show, AND
film "Calendar Girls". (The stage show, Calendar Girls is
coming to Aberdeen next year, although, not being London, the cast may not include
Kelly Brook.)
Nonetheless, they weren't the first to fundraise frock-free, they certainly won't be the last.
Yet none seem to draw the
criticism aimed at
RyanAir. This is , I believe, the third year that the company have run this campaign, expected to raise about £100,000, with the charity they've chosen from 200 applicants being
KIDS.
So why the criticism? Are their staff "
too sexy"?
Whether you're considering a 'glamour' calendar, a scenic one, a charity calendar or not - there are plenty of options available, and I've heard no complaints over
"The Girls of Hollyoaks", or "
Hunky Firefighters" available through Calendar Club or their equivalents.
I'd like to hear your views..
Are the nude calendars cliched and doomed to disappear, or will they remain on the landscape?
Is it acceptable so long as it's men, or perhaps 'not glamorous' or unexpected people stripping?
Should charities accept donations raised in this way?
What's the deal?
Finally, just to set your minds at rest, there will be no nude Michael (or anyone else) featured on Barnardo's Calendars.
There is, of course a
full range, including this year's
'A Child's View' Calendar featuring artwork produced by just some of the children and young people who attend Barnardo's projects or the schools we support.
