Mike's musings

Whatever thoughts have been on my mind will probably end up here. Updated weekly, but perhaps more initially as I throw in some older things.

“I’ve got the family I’ve always wanted. It’s definitely the best thing that could have happened” ~ Lauren, 18, fostered through Barnardo’s.

Across the UK, there are thousands of children waiting for adoptive families, foster carers and short break carers. With over 100 years experience in placing children with families, Barnardo’s ensures our carers receive the support and training they need. We also offer carer allowances so that our carers and children are always fully supported. To discover what it’s like being part of a foster family, view this video case study.

For those interested in becoming a carer, we’re holding information events throughout the UK, where you will be able to talk to members of staff and current carers about fostering or adopting through Barnardo’s, as well as the training and support on offer. Find out when and where these information sessions will be taking place, via Barnardo’s Fostering and Adoption website.

The need for additional carers and adopters has seldom been more pressing - 10,000 foster carers and 4,000 adopters are required to provide placements and care for children across the UK.

I'm posting this because today sees the start of Barnardo's Fostering and Adoption Week. Barnardo's Scotland Fostering Aberdeen is only one of the many projects we run in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

I'd also recommend having a wee read of Joy's story.
